WAGON WHEEL SCHOOL MULTIPURPOSE BUILDLING, HANCOCK PARK, LOS ANGELES. CA.

Wagon Wheel School is such an icon in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles that it was featured in an episode of ‘Modern Family”.  On an adjacent site to the original school was located an abandoned building that had for years been the locus of truly sad events.  It had been occupied by the homeless, been subject to rampant vandalism and decay.  Wagon Wheel for years had tried to acquire the property but was unable to until late in 2006.  Once acquired it suffered one more indignity by being burned by arson.  We were asked to build a new multi-purpose building which would face the adjacent yard area of the original school. The new building was designed to fully open up to the adjacent yard, and become at various times a stage, an art studio, and theater. New offices for staff were placed on the second floor, and can look down into the double height main space.
