UPWARD BOUND HOUSE, CULVER CITY, CA.

Upward Bound House provides shelter and counseling facilities for families in crisis.  We were approached by them to rehab a dilapidated motel site on the boarder of Culver City and Santa Monica.  The existing facility had 19 motel rooms and a caretaker’s home.  We found that the caretakers home, which we had intended for remodeling, was so decrepit and decomposed that it would be more cost effective to demolish it and build a new building. The new two story building located on the corner has residential facilities for the permanent staff/ caretakers, a communal kitchen area and facilities for counselling and job searching.  The 19 room motel building was fully upgraded and brought to code, re-finished and has interiors re-designed by 19 different interior designers.  Each room, designed independently by these volunteer interior design firms resulted in rooms with wonderful features of great beauty, care and sensitivity for these families.
