ALTARIDGE HOMES, TOPANGA, CA.

A group of 4 homes are located along a ridge which runs parallel to Topanga Canyon Boulevard as it traverses the Santa Monica range.  They were designed and built over a 3 year period for the same developer, Quadrant Inc.  We were asked to design these 4 houses so that they were both modern and sensitive to their location. We designed this group of homes, formed by use of a common but not identical series of architectural elements, so that they would make a modern statement of sensitive development.  The four homes are all completely different designs of approximately the same size.  They share common points of view regarding general formal language and material selection. The final goal is to provide a development of modern homes which are naturally displaced and compatible with each other and their location on the ridge.  The use of horizontal lines, and muted colors rooted in the landscape results in a generally quiet, unified grouping across the ridge.
