VANOS ARCHITECTS

Doheny Residence, Los Angeles, CA.

The ‘Bird Streets’, located in the Hollywood Hills area of the Santa Monica Mountain Range, directly above West Hollywood, are the locus of a current flurry of progressive modern architectural design.  Oriented to the younger generation of a resurgent entertainment industry, these homes are, in general, designed with great care and built to exacting standards. The Doheny home is one of three which we have done in this area.  (The others being the Marcheeta and Oriole).  This home was built as a speculative development, by a young Swiss developer.  Designed in collaboration with him, the home bears much of his Swiss design lineage.  Seamless Indoor-Outdoor living is the principal goal of this home, and therefore, the home is designed around its exterior living areas, which include a wet-edge pool and outdoor entertainment areas.  The materials of the home are characteristically simple and organic;  Ipe wood, plaster, terrazzo and wood floors, and split face basalt stone.  The home is open, light and elegant.
