27TH STREET SMALL LOT, LOS ANGELES, CA.

27th street is located in a historic preservation area near USC.  In order to build new, the proposed building is reviewed for compatibility with the surrounding historical neighborhood.  Into this mix we were asked to design a new 4-unit small lot project with historic stylistic references. Given that the Small Lot Ordinance is an invention of 2007, the ‘historicity’ of the project in terms of planning and site development required extensive discussion.  The building design contains many of the design features and coloration of nearby historical buildings; tripartite massing with mass oriented base, mid-section an articulated top.  Construction is scheduled for early 2017.
